Where Design Meets Purpose: Inside Virginia Tablescapes with Little Hands Virginia

here are beautiful events, and then there are meaningful ones. Some are both.

This spring, we had the privilege of participating in Virginia Tablescapes, the signature fundraising event hosted by Little Hands Virginia, an organization that proves that small essentials can change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Held at The Foundry at Tredegar in Richmond, Virginia, this year’s fourth annual fundraiser welcomed more than 700 attendees for an immersive two-day experience themed “Design Through the Ages.” Designers from across Virginia and beyond transformed tables into living stories, each inspired by a distinct design era – from timeless tradition to modern expression, demonstrating how tables can become both art and storytelling.

Beyond the florals, layered linens, collected object, and inspired design moments, the heart of Virginia Tablescapes lies in something far more powerful: community care.

A Mission Rooted in the Earliest Years

Founded in 2019 Little Hands Virginia was born from a simple but urgent question: Why was it so difficult to donate baby essentials directly to families who needed them most?

What started in a garage quickly evolved into one of Central Virginia’s most impactful nonprofit organizations supporting children from newborn to age three. Today, Little Hands partners with more than 60 organizations to provide diapers, clothing, formula, books, cribs, and other essentials to families navigating hardship across the Greater Richmond region.

Their model is refreshingly direct: when a partner organization submits a request for a child, Little Hands assembles personalized bundles and delivers them directly to families’ doors with the help of an extraordinary volunteer network.

The impact is tangible. Funds raised through Virginia Tablescapes help Little Hands distribute up to 100,000 diapers each month and support more than 10,000 children every year, ensuring babies and toddlers begin life clean, healthy, and cared for.

As creatives and storytellers in the world of entertaining, we often talk about the power of gathering and how a thoughtfully designed table can spark conversation, create memory, and make people feel seen. Virginia Tablescapes reminded us that design can do something even greater.

Here, beauty had purpose. Every layered place setting, every carefully considered centerpiece, every detail contributed to something larger than aesthetics: helping meet the growing needs of families in our community.

Participating in this event was a reminder that creativity carries responsibility. Design is never just about what is visually pleasing; at its best, it becomes a vehicle for generosity, connection, and care.

Little Hands Virginia continues to expand its reach as demand grows across Central Virginia, relying on community support, volunteers, donated goods, and events like Virginia Tablescapes to sustain its mission. If this year’s event was any indication, the future is bright – beautifully set, deeply intentional, and grounded in service. We left inspired not only by the remarkable talent on display, but by the reminder that the most memorable tables are the ones that make room for impact.
