Sage Cakery is one of those rare spaces. Founded by Nikkie Byrd, this scratch bakery has built a reputation for artfully designed cakes and desserts made with intention, care, and a deep understanding of hospitality. What began as a passion has grown into a beloved destination for weddings, celebrations, holidays, and everyday moments worth savoring.



On a personal note, Sage Cakery has become a staple in my own celebrations. Nikkie has created my birthday cakes for the past two years, each one more thoughtful and beautiful than the last. Q+A with Nikki Byrd
Danielle – As the owner of an incredible bakery what philosophies do you focus on when it comes to your client experience?
Nikki – For us, it begins with making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Celebrations are deeply personal, and the desserts at their center should feel that way too.
Our goal is to help clients translate their vision into something tangible and beautiful. Sometimes clients arrive with a clear mood board or theme, and other times they simply know the feeling they want their event to have. In either case, we guide them through the process, helping curate a design that feels authentic to their style while ensuring thoughtful and beautiful execution.
Danielle – What do your clients request most often?
Nikki – Many of our clients come to us with inspiration boards, themes, or color palettes and ask us to interpret them through our own creative lens. There’s a wonderful level of trust in that process.
They know that when they give us the freedom to design within their vision, we’re able to play to our strengths and create something that feels both intentional and elevated. That collaboration between their inspiration and our artistry is often where the most memorable cakes and dessert displays come to life.
Danielle – What do your clients appreciate most about what you offer?
Nikki – I think our clients appreciate that we approach our work with both artistry and care. They value our experience and expertise, but they also connect with our operational style.
We bake entirely from scratch using high quality, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, and we prioritize how we treat our team, our community, and the environment. People can feel when something is made with intention, and I believe that sense of care shows up in the final product.
Danielle – What is something you’ve learned about hosting and hospitality along the way that you’d like to share with future home hosts?
Nikki – Hospitality is less about perfection and more about presence. The gatherings people remember most are the ones where they felt welcomed, comfortable, and genuinely cared for.
Thoughtful details certainly help, but the true magic of hosting comes from creating an atmosphere where people can relax, connect, and enjoy being together. When a host can be present with their guests rather than worrying about every small detail, the entire experience feels more meaningful.
