Host + Guest: A Guide to Gracious Visiting
As the holiday season unfolds, there’s no better time to practice mindful ways to embody grace—whether you’re welcoming others into your home or stepping into theirs.
Thoughtful Hospitality | For the Host
Hosting doesn’t need to be expensive or stressful. There are a few sure-fire ways to make your guest feel instantly at home and you likely already have them. The key is to anticipate their needs before they arrive. Start by setting their room or space with thoughtful touches: a water carafe and glass at the bedside, mini toiletries and clean towels. Elements that delight—a handwritten welcome note, a bouquet of flowers or a potted plant, and a framed Wi-Fi password—are inexpensive and impactful ways to elevate their stay.
Other items to elevate their experience may be a chic catch-all or basket (save your side tables), notepad and pen, and an air purifier add both function and charm.
For an extra special touch, I love adding a framed photo of me and my guest from one of our favorite memories—a little reminder of the bond you share that makes their visit truly memorable.

Gracious Guesting | For the Guest
A gracious guest always leaves behind more than just a “thank you.” Here are a few curated gifts to show your appreciation:
For the Lover of Bubbles – Champagne + Vintage Coupes
There’s no better way to toast your host than with a bottle of champagne (cava and prosecco are also perfectly acceptable and sometimes preferred). Pair the ribbon-tied bottle with a set of vintage coupes. The combination is timeless, celebratory, and just the right amount of glamour.
For the Localist + Foodie – Marble Cheese Board + Local Pairings
Pair a marble cheese board with spreaders or knives and local cheese. It’s a gesture that feels both indulgent and useful—something your host can put to work right away or cherish for their next gathering. Elevate it with other local goodies such as honey, jams, or spreads and a fresh baguette from the local bakery.
For the Traditionalist – Bourbon + Vintage Rocks Glasses
A bottle of bourbon (we love Frederick, MD favorite, McClintock Distilling) presented with vintage rocks glasses is a gracious nod to tradition. Equal parts thoughtful and spirited, it’s perfect for the host who appreciates craftsmanship and a slow sip. For next-level gratitude, add a crystal decanter or silver decanter tags.
For the Ritualist – Artisan Coffee + Handcrafted Mugs
For the coffee devotee, elevate their morning ritual with small-batch beans, like Maryland-based Rustic Route Coffee, accompanied by a set of double-walled glass mugs. It’s a gift that turns an everyday moment into something memorable.
At its heart, graceful entertaining is about connection—thoughtful gestures, small luxuries, and genuine care create moments that linger long after the visit ends. Whether you are hosting or being hosted, approaching each encounter with intention and warmth transforms ordinary gatherings into lasting memories. This season, let every detail—big or small—be a reflection of the care and joy you bring to others, and savor the simple elegance of being together.
