Modern Luxury Interiors x Gaggenau Designer Dinner

Forged in iron, rooted in German blacksmithing, dark forests and pine. Nothing about this brand story says “warm, inviting or kitchen appliance”.  In fact it is, and Gaggenau was such a great fit for what Ghost Host can do. We were charged with telling their story through their tablescape and guest environment. The dinner was thoughtful, clever, immersive and felt more like a true culinary experience over an appliance showcase.

We partnered with Modern Luxury Interiors, Curated Events, Black Calla Events and Lucy Blossoms to bring our vision to life. Black iron flatware, hand thrown black matte dinnerware, Schott and Zweisel stemware and lush collections of moss, painted structural Anthurium, fern, and black callas called to brand story in an unexpected but beautifully paralleled way.

Here are the five things we loved about this event and how you can apply them in your own entertaining.

1 Tell the story \ they are a global brand with a 400 year history, they’ve had some time to think about what they want to convey as a company. What is the story you want your guests to experience? Think about it, write it down, what elements can you incorporate that parallel or give nod?

2 Make it with meaning \ each course served was designed by Chef Stella Giraldella to showcase a specific appliance in the show kitchen. They took an otherwise functional item and made it a flavor profile, a specific dish to experience. What menu do you want to curate? A seasonal item? A family recipe? Your favorite restaurant? (fun fact: I’m not above takeout or delivery, but I do love a replating for presentation).

3 Lighting matters \ it’s no secret, wireless table lamps are in and we incorporated these minimalist black lamps to give a warm glow and to disappear within the centerpiece.  I love a dimmer in my home and I rarely turn on the “big lights” (ie: ceiling lights). Lean on lamps with a warm bulb or add candles for an inviting feel.

4 Engage your guests \ at this event, guests were able to engage in garnishing or finishing plates, it created an opportunity for them to move around, network with guests at other tables, connect through authentic interaction and learn something. Do you have a call to action? Thoughts or questions you want to ask or discovery? What is the purpose of your gathering? What can you do as the host to bring that to life?

5 Say it with a sendoff \ ok, y’all know I love a good candle. Gaggenau did not come to play with their signature scent. A luxury scent in a silk lined custom box with tone on tone branding tied off with a black velvet ribbon. Yes. Yes please. I also love scent branding. It is the most underutilized sense and yet has the highest memory connection. It is why you can remember exactly where you were when you smell something familiar. You certainly do not need to send your guests home with a gift every time you host but if it makes sense, we highly recommend it. A memento of the evening. A menu card signed by all of the guests? A ribbon from the napkin tied around a small posey of flowers from the centerpiece?

I would love to hear from you, are there things you do to bring these tips to life?  Gratitude is best served warm, left to fill the soul of the recipient and the heart of the giver.

Happy Hosting! – Danielle
